Daft Punk got “Lucky” at this year's Grammys.
The masked men of Electronic Dance Music made out like bandits, taking two of the three top prizes: Record of the Year (for their lusty smash "Get Lucky") and Album of the Year (for their ambitious disc "Random Access Memories").

The Daft duo, who shield their faces behind motorcycle helmets and do not speak publicly, shared their "Record" win with Pharrell Williams, who sings “Lucky.” Williams, who also took the Producer of the Year prize, spoke for “the robots,” referencing their actual country of origin. “I bet France is really proud of these guys right now,” Williams said.
While electronic music took two of the three biggest awards Sunday, independent music also had a big night.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis — who have famously rebuffed the major labels’ repeated attempts to sign them — snapped up four awards, including the coveted Best New Artist prize.
The duo’s seven million-selling ode to cheap, used clothing, “Thrift Shop,” earned both the Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance prize. They also took Best Rap Album for “The Heist.”

The pair made history with their performance of the hit “Same Love.” While the openly gay author of the song’s chorus, Mary Lambert, crooned the main hook, 33 real life couples — some straight, some gay — exchanged rings in a make-shift wedding. During the ceremony, guest star Madonna worked in her old hit “Open Your Heart.” As an early supporter of gay rights, she fit in seamlessly.
Lorde took the night’s other biggest award, Song of the Year, for her anti-bling anthem “Royals.” The 17 year old also took Best Pop Solo Performance.

Some of pop’s starriest female performers got to model some gold as well. Alicia Keys snapped up Best R&B Album for “Girl on Fire,” while Rihanna got the Urban Contemporary Album nod.
Adele, Grammy’s dominant winner in 2012, added to hear already over-crowded mantle-place with the Song Written For Visual Media statue, for her Oscar-winning, Bond Theme song “Skyfall.”

Among boldfaced males, Justin Timberlake landed the top R&B Song prize for his suave smash “Pusher Lover Girl.” JT’s song clip for “Suit & Tie” got the Music Video of the Year award. Timberlake's collaborator Jay Z, also corralled the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration trinket for "Holy Grail."
Bruno Mars took Best Pop Vocal Album for “Unorthodox Jukebox.”

Despite all the prizes awarded — 82 — the televised portion of the event emphasized performances over trophies. (72 of the statuettes were handed out at a separate event held right before the TV show).
